"I love you in this way because I know no other way of loving
But this, in which there is no I or you"

(Pablo Neruda, 'Sonnet XVII')

Not solely for same sex relationships, Commitment Ceremonies provide couples with an opportunity to pronounce their love to family and friends and celebrate their enduring commitment to each other. They can be similar in form to traditional marriage ceremonies, incorporating readings, rituals, music and the participation of loved ones.

The ‘Invoking of the Four Directions’ is a hand-fasting ritual which recognises the elements necessary in maintaining a satisfying and strong relationship such as energy, passion, creativity, security and communication. Loved ones can easily be involved in this ancient ritual.

Another popular inclusion is the Wine Sharing ceremony in which the symbolism derives from the bitter sweet properties of wine. Together, the sweet and the bitter represent “Life’s Journey” and those who drink deeply from the “Cup of Life” with an open heart and willing spirit, invite the full range of challenges and experiences into their being.
